This the West Cook YMCA's  Fred Hampton Aquatic Center at Veteran’s Park just south of Lake Street on First Avenue.  The center is a large outdoor pool, with two water slides and a kiddie pool. In event of rain we will swim at the YMCA's indoor pool in Oak Park.
ALL CAMP SHALOM FAMILIES WILL BE INVITED TO THE GRAND OPENING OF THIS POOL BEFORE CAMP BEGINS. MORE DETAILS TO FOLLOW SOON!

camp shalom 2013 registration is online!

This summer Camp Shalom will once again offer a high quality day camp program for children entering 1st through 6th grades.  Camp Shalom is a day camp centered around Judaic values and themes in a relaxed, informal setting that includes swimming, art, sports, tzedakah (helping others) and other outdoor and indoor activities.  Camp Shalom provides excellent counselor to camper ratio always emphasizing fun, safety and inclusion for all campers.  Camper safety is our first priority at all times.

  • Hours: 9:00-4:00 daily, 7:45 early drop off available
  • Drop Off & Pick Up at Oak Park Temple,  1235 N. Harlem, in Oak Park. 
  • Campers bring lunches Monday through Thursday.  All lunches are refrigerated.  On Fridays we provide lunch. 
  • Each camper receives a camp T-shirt. 
  • We swim every day! Monday through Thursday are indoor lessons at the Oak Park YMCA with YMCA swim instructors.  Friday is free swim at the outdoor Forest Park pool with our counselors.  Round trip bus service is provided.

Daily activities include:

An energetic staff of high school and college age counselors organize sports, music, drama and arts activities in a fun and safe camp environment.
  • Daily visits to Field Center park at Mann School for sports and outdoor activities
  • Daily chugim (specialty activities): campers choose between art, sports, games and drama at Oak Park Temple
  • Swimming with the West Cook YMCA
  • Group time organized by age of campers
  • Two snacks daily
Other special activities include:
  • Surprise theme days
  • Maccabiah (olympic) days
  • Special guest visitors

camp enrollment is open to 50 campers per session!

Maximum bus capacity seating limits the number of campers we can accept per session.  We are opening each session to the first 50 campers that register.  Depending on demand we may be able to add a second bus for additional campers.  Please register early to assure your spot!

Due to the cost for daily round trip bus transportation we can no longer pro-rate fees for missed days or weeks in a session.  To offset this lack of flexibility we have broken our sessions down into one 1-week and three 2-week sessions.

Camp Shalom tuition includes all expenses for the summer, including swimming lessons, bus service to and from swimming lessons, snacks, t-shirt, supplies and special programs.  A 25% deposit is required to complete registration.  All camp fees must be paid before the first day of camp.  Please mail or drop off your deposit at Oak Park Temple, 1235 N. Harlem, Oak Park IL, 60302.  We accept and hold post dated check for the balance of fees. Cancellation fee after June 1st is $50. Payments can also be made with a credit card at Oak Park Temple's webste:  www.oakparktemple.org but we prefer payment by check to avoid costly processing fees.
